Falcon has some experienced coaches and actively partakes in the training and improvement thereof, utilising the the UK Coaching programme. Our coaches are often experienced rowers who wish to help others improve or update their skills both on and off the water.

We are keen to hear from you if you are a coach, or experienced rower who would like to coach. We always welcome coaches at Falcon. Whether you have years of experience, or are new to coaching and keen to learn, we can help you get experience and qualifications. At Falcon, a sense of humour and patience is as essential as your coaching skills.

What qualifications do I need?

  • All coaches should be aiming to get the Level 2 UK Coaching Certificate (formerly Instructor’s Award). Anyone working with juniors must have this qualification. Click HERE for more information.
  • All coaches should undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. The club will help you with this.

How will the club help me get qualified?

  • The club will refund the full balance of a coaching course from the following year’s subscription fees.
  • Coaches who both coach and row/scull pay discounted membership.
  • Coach mentoring – the club is setting up a coach mentoring scheme where experienced coaches mentor less experienced coaches.

Our Community Sports Coach

Falcon has successfully fundraised for a professional coach via the Community Sports Coach scheme. Paul Redgewell took up the post in May 2006 and is working with Falcon, Oxford Adaptive Rowers and Hinksey Sculling School on their junior programmes.
