Coaching Team

Lorna Hermes: Junior Co-ordinator

I came to Falcon in 2011, back in the days with 20 juniors and one aging Burgashell quad! I started rowing as a J13 at Maidstone Invicta in Kent, where I competed at the JIRR and National Schools. I switched to coaching aged 16, although at university I briefly went back to racing, including competing at Henley Women's Regatta. I have spent time coaching at a number of clubs, including Maidstone Invicta, King's College London, Eton College and University College Oxford. I have coached crews to 'Blades' at Summer Eights, national medals and GB trials, and I was this year's winning team manager at the JIRR for the Thames Upriver region. I combine coaching the High Performance juniors and running the squad with a full time shift based job with the emergency services.

Thomas Frost

I'm a 5th year university student at Oxford studying medicine, who came to the UK from New Zealand. I first started rowing at school in New Zealand when I was 13, and carried it on when I came to Oxford at college-level, and then university rowing with the lightweight rowing squad. I've since started to switch over to coaching, and alongside coaching at Falcon, I'm also the head men's coach for Trinity College. My current plan is to sit the British Rowing level 2 coaching qualification in September... and a little-known fact about me besides my love for rowing is that I am secretly also a qualified ski instructor!

I first began rowing as a J15 at my local home club. During this time I competed in NJIRC where achieved a bronze and silver team medal with the school club. I later achieved the title of WJ18 Singles Champion at WEARA. At 17 I was successful in getting onto the GB Rowing Teams ‘Start Programme’ and as a result moved to Hartpury College to gain A levels and train. Whilst at Hartpury I was in the winning 4x at National Schools Regatta, National Junior Championships, Women’s Henley Regatta, Home Internationals and competed in the semi-finals of Henley Royal Regatta.
Alongside rowing and my A levels I have also completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE). Upon completion of my A levels I began studying Nutrition at Oxford Brookes University where I competed in the Women’s First Eight, winning WEHORR at IM3 level and was in the winning 4x for BUCS. I am currently completing my final year at University and I am very excited to start coaching at Falcons Rowing Club.

Aengus Allen

Hello, my name is Aengus. I've been rowing as a Falcon Junior for the past four years now, and have represented the club at many races up and down the country. Having also acted as an assistant coach for the past couple years, I look forward to again seeing the progression made by crews and individuals throughout this season. I am however off to university this year, and so will not be down at the club as often. None the less, I am excited to hear all about the inevitable success this year will bring for the Juniors.
